# How do I create an Octiv profile for a child?
## Setting up child member profiles in Octiv
A child's Octiv profile is set up by **facility staff** as part of a **Family Account**. The child becomes a **dependant** of the parent or guardian who pays for them. There are two ways to set up a child, depending on whether the child will use the Octiv app themselves.
### Which type of profile does the child need?
- **Login-less: for children without a phone or their own email address.** The child has no email address and no app account. The parent books for them, and all of the child's emails (booking confirmations, contracts, waivers and so on) go to the parent.
- **Full login: for children who will use the Octiv app themselves.** The child has their own email address and app login, so they can book and check in on their own phone. The parent still pays and can still book for them.
Whichever type you choose, **the parent can book for the child from the parent's own app**, without logging in to the child's account.
### Create a login-less profile (children without a phone)
1. Go to **Members \>\> Manage** and find the parent or guardian.
2. Open the **Actions** menu (⋮) on their row and choose **Set Dependant**, or click **Set Dependant** in the **My Family** section of their profile.
3. Click **Create New** and choose **Login-less**.
4. Fill in **Name**, **Surname**, **Date of Birth**, **Gender**, **Primary Location** and **Programme**. No email address is needed.
5. Tick **Use \[guardian\]'s address and emergency contact** if you want to copy the parent's details across.
6. Click **Create Dependant**.
7. Add the child's package from their **Packages** tab. The parent is billed for it.
### Create a full-login profile (children who will use the app)
1. Go to **Members \>\> Manage**, find the parent or guardian, and open **Set Dependant** as above.
2. Click **Create New**, choose **Full login**, and click **Continue to Wizard**.
3. Complete the Create Member wizard. The parent is already filled in as the guardian. The child needs **their own email address**. The payment method and primary location steps are skipped because both come from the parent.
4. Add the child's package from their **Packages** tab. The parent is billed for it.
If the child already has an Octiv profile, don't create a new one. In Set Dependant, use **Or Find Existing Member** to find the child, then click **Link Member**. Their existing invoices stay on their own record, and future charges move to the parent.
### How the parent books for their children
The parent can book, cancel and join waitlists for every child linked to them, login-less or full login, from the **parent's own app**. They don't need to log in to the child's account:
1. The parent taps **Book** on the class as they normally would.
2. On **"Who is this booking for?"**, the app lists **You** (the parent) and each child, with the package each person would use for that class, or **"No package for this class"** if they don't have one that covers it.
3. The parent selects the child and taps **Continue**.
4. If the child has more than one package, the parent chooses which package to use.
Cancelling a booking and joining a waitlist work the same way.
To buy the child a package, the parent goes to **Buy \>\> Packages \>\> Buy New Package**, selects the child on **"Who is this package for?"**, and taps **Choose a Package**. The parent can see each child under **My Account \>\> Accounts \>\> Family Members**. Each child also appears under **Linked Users** on the same tab, where the parent can tap **⇌** to switch into the child's profile. The parent's **Bookings** tab shows their own bookings and each child's bookings separately.
A child with a full login can also book for themselves on their own phone. Whether they can **buy** packages or store items themselves depends on their app permissions, which are off by default. See [How do Family Accounts work?](https://knowledge.octivfitness.com/family-accounts?hsLang=en)
Login-less isn't only for children. Use it for **any member who doesn't need to log in to the app** and is paid for by another member.
