# How do I automate my invoice generation?
## Set when cash invoices are created, when they're due and whether they're sent automatically.
Octiv creates your member invoices automatically. How and when depends on the member's payment type.
When you add a new member with **Members \>\> Manage \>\> Create New**, whether their first invoice is created straight away depends on their payment method and whether their first month is prorated. The settings below control the ongoing monthly invoices for existing members.
### Debit order invoices
Debit order invoices are created automatically for members on direct debit, about 45 days in advance, so you have time to check and edit them.
### Card subscription invoices
Card subscription invoices are created automatically on the member's billing date. To give members time to pay before the invoice is due:
1. Go to **Settings \>\> Accounts \>\> Location Settings** and choose the **Location**.
2. Under **Subscription invoices due after generation**, set **Payment due after (days)**.
3. Click **Update**.
### Cash invoices
Octiv has two ways of creating cash invoices. If you see **Cash Member Invoice Generation Day (Midnight)** under **Settings \>\> Accounts \>\> Facility Settings**, your facility uses **legacy cash invoicing**. If you don't, it uses the **new cash invoicing**. **Legacy cash invoicing:** cash invoices can be created automatically every month, created manually, or not created at all. To set them up:
1. Go to **Settings \>\> Accounts \>\> Facility Settings**.
2. Under **General**, choose the **Cash Member Invoice Generation Day (Midnight)**. This is the day of the month the invoices are created. Choose **Don't Generate** if you don't want cash invoices created automatically.
3. Choose the **Cash Member Invoice Due Day**. This is the day payment is due. Invoices are sorted by due date.
4. Choose the **Cash Member Invoice Strategy**:
- **Generate Only** creates the invoices but doesn't send them.
- **Generate & Send** creates the invoices and emails them to members on the generation day.
5. Click **Update**.
**New cash invoicing:** each cash member's invoice is created automatically on their own billing date. To set it up:
1. Go to **Settings \>\> Accounts \>\> Location Settings** and choose the **Location**.
2. Under **Subscription invoices due after generation**, set **Payment due after (days)** and click **Update**. Repeat for each location.
3. Go to **Settings \>\> Accounts \>\> Facility Settings** and choose the **Cash Member Invoice Strategy**: **Generate Only** or **Generate & Send**. Click **Update**.
To see when each member's next invoice will be created, go to **Accounts \>\> Subscriptions** and check the **Next Billing Date** column.
