How do I let members buy packages in the app?

Letting members buy and upgrade packages themselves in the Octiv app

You can let members buy packages directly in the Octiv app - a frictionless way for them to upgrade or buy a new package on demand, without back-and-forth with your team. This is set per package, so only the packages you enable are available for self-purchase.

Enable a package for app purchase
Settings >> Packages >> Actions (next to the package) >> Edit >> tick "Allow purchase of package through Octiv mobile app?". Work through all your packages and enable or disable each one as needed.

The payment methods available in the app are the same ones you have selected for new sign-ups in your sign-up settings.

How a member buys a package
In the app menu: Packages >> Buy a new package >> select the package >> choose a payment method >> accept the Contract & Waiver >> Sign up. For the member's view of this, see How do I buy a package in the Octiv app?

What happens after purchase
This depends on the package type and your payment gateway:

  • Limited package + ad-hoc gateway (Paystack or Stripe): the member pays immediately by card. Once the payment succeeds the sessions are released, and the invoice is created, sent, and marked paid automatically.
  • Month-to-month package + debit order (Netcash, Three Peaks, or GoCardless): the member is asked to complete their debit order details / GoCardless mandate.
  • Limited package + no ad-hoc gateway: the member is told the invoice must be paid first. The invoice is created automatically, but the sessions are only released once you record the invoice as paid under Accounts >> Invoices.
  • Month-to-month package + no debit order: the package is added to the member's profile automatically and they can start booking straight away. An invoice is created automatically, which you record as paid manually under Accounts >> Invoices.

If the purchase notification is switched on, the owner/admin receives an email each time a package is bought through the app, showing the member's name, the package purchased, and the payment type.
